PortlinQ: Built on Collaboration

PortlinQ is a federated data exchange initiative for inland port logistics, aimed at enabling interoperable and standardised digital communication between heterogeneous systems across the sector. The project, part of the Dutch BO-MIRT program ‘Freight Transport Corridor East-South-East’, defines common agreements, data standards and governance principles that allow stakeholders—such as inland ports, barge-operators and skippers, port community systems, authorities, and service providers—to exchange operational data in a secure, controlled and scalable manner.

Instead of introducing a centralised platform, PortlinQ adopts a distributed architecture in which existing systems remain in place while being connected through shared interfaces and standardised protocols. Also IAA is part of this context. This approach reduces integration
complexity and avoids vendor lock-in, while ensuring semantic and technical interoperability across participating parties. The framework supports real-time or near-real-time data exchange, depending on the capabilities of the connected systems.

By aligning data models and communication rules, PortlinQ facilitates more efficient coordination of port-related processes such as vessel calls, service requests, and logistical planning. The result is improved data consistency, reduced manual intervention, and a more resilient digital ecosystem for inland shipping operations. Further details, scope definitions and implementation principles are outlined on the website and FAQ section.
